Real Estate Markets, Structuring, Finance and Taxation

Walkers

Thu 06 Mar

Join Roy Saunders of IFS and Chairman of the IBSA, together with Mark Galazzi and Louise Hamilton from Walkers, Marcus Bradbury-Ross from CBRE, Melanie Reed & Mark Fielden from Moore Kingston Smith, Anthony Hunt from Howard Kennedy and Ian Burdett from Investec Wealth and Investment (UK) for an afternoon workshop on Thursday 6 March 2025 on Real Estate Markets, Structuring, Finance and Taxation.

The workshop will be based on a case study, along with a structural diagram, where a (fictional) family office has approached its tax advisers, onshore and offshore legal advisers, property advisers and its proposed lender in relation to structuring and financing (a) UK commercial real estate assets known as ‘The Chard’ and ‘The Cornichon’ and (b) a 12 bedroom mansion with extensive grounds in a fashionable street in north west London to be occupied by the patriarch of the family and his wife.

The panellists will discuss the state of the commercial and residential market in the UK and compare this with the global pattern of real estate investments. We will then review the case study slide prepared and consider the choice of jurisdiction for the various UK investments, whether these be onshore or offshore. Changes made in 2019 regarding the tax position for non-UK residents will be examined along with the use of JPUTs which remain popular as a result of their tax transparent nature. The legal and financing issues relevant to foreign family offices investing into various types of UK real estate will be considered in relation to the case study as well as common offshore issues which arise and which can potentially affect completion of the projects examined.

Registration will start from 13:30 with the workshop starting promptly at 14:00 until 17:00.  The workshop will incorporate several Q&A opportunities for delegates to engage directly with the speakers, similar to the highly acclaimed discussion group meetings held by the IBSA globally throughout the year.

The workshop fee is £300 plus VAT reduced to £150 plus VAT for IBSA members.

A certificate of attendance will be available providing 3 hours towards your professional development.

This workshop is a must for entrepreneurs who may be involved in some of the issues discussed, as well as professional advisers engaged in advising these entrepreneurs, and especially for their younger colleagues who can gain experience of what clients are looking for when discussing their business ambitions.
