Inheritance Tax and Succession Planning Workshop

Zoom Meeting

Thu 07 Nov

The London Tube strikes are off but we will continue to run this event online.

The October Budget outlined significant changes regarding pensions, indicating that they may cease to be an effective tool for succession planning starting in April 2027. It's important to understand who will be affected by this change and what the implications will be.  Additionally, the long-anticipated abolition of the non-domicile (non-dom) regime will take effect from April 2025. This raises questions about the impact on protected trusts, the remittance of foreign income and gains, and whether some individuals may benefit from the new regulations.

The Budget announced that Business Property Relief will be reduced by half starting in April 2026. What impact will this have on succession planning? Coming on top of a 1.2% increase in NIC for employers, will the Chancellor's hopes for economic growth be jeopardized if businesses are targeted to fund the NHS and schools? Furthermore, how will this situation affect entrepreneurs, particularly with an anticipated increase in capital gains tax on the potential sale of their businesses, while inheritance tax rates remain unchanged?

Join Roy Saunders from IFS and Chair of IBSA, along with Liz Palmer from Howard Kennedy, Philip Baker KC from Field Court Tax Chambers, and Lucy Greenwood from the International Family Law Group, for an online workshop on Thursday, November 7

This session will cover the impact of recent revelations and a decade of "national renewal" on various issues, including inheritance tax and other non-tax aspects of succession planning. The afternoon workshop will focus on the ongoing relevance of offshore trusts, the potential increased interest in Foundations in the UK, and residence planning related to the countries discussed in the IBSA summer podcast series, as well as address other significant issues to help families navigate the complexities of estate management.

A myriad of questions arising from the Budget will be discussed at our workshop and ‘clinic’, where delegates ask their own questions relevant for their particular circumstances, or those of their clients, through the Zoom chat function.

The workshop fee is £300 plus VAT reduced to £150 plus VAT for IBSA members.

Zoom login details will be sent out prior to the event so please make sure to download the Zoom app here before joining the meeting.

A certificate of attendance will be available providing 3 hours towards your professional development.

This workshop is a must for entrepreneurs who may be involved in some of the issues discussed, as well as professional advisers engaged in advising these entrepreneurs, and especially for their younger colleagues who can gain experience of what clients are looking for when discussing their business ambitions.
