He joined IFS in September 2010 after earning his LLM (Tax) degree at King’s College, London. Five years prior to this, Dmitry earned his LLB at Durham University and completed an LPC at the College of Law. Dmitry is a qualified Russian lawyer — he came to the UK from Moscow, where for five years he worked as an associate at Moscow City Bar Association "Barshchevsky & Partners". Dmitry specialised in advising foreign investors exploring opportunities in Russia on corporate tax implications together with Russian and cross-border tax planning. Dmitry holds the Advanced Diploma in International Tax and is studying to become a CTA.

Mark established Mark Davies & Associates Ltd in 2007 to focus on the movement of individuals and their capital (in particular entrepreneurs and non-domiciled persons who are resident in the UK) and to provide tax advice on complex structures, particularly those involving offshore trusts and companies.

Mark trained with a ‘Big 4’ firm in Guernsey, and in 1997 became a Chartered Tax Adviser. Mark has over 20 years of experience giving proactive tax advice with a personal touch. He has specialised in providing individually tailored creative tax solutions to individual clients and their families in order to preserve their wealth for future generations. Prior to setting up the company, he was a private client partner heading up the personal tax team at a top 10 firm in London.

His main interests include tax planning for non UK domiciled persons pre-immigration, tax planning for non-UK domiciled persons (and for their ‘toys’ – yachts, jets etc.) while they are resident in the UK, in-bound investment in UK real estate and businesses through offshore structures, and UK investors investing abroad.

He has regularly lectured on the subjects of residence and domicile. He is a co-author of chapters on Tax Planning for Non-UK Domiciled People, Non Residents Investing in the UK, and Tax Planning using Trusts which are published in Tolley’s Tax Planning.

Mike is responsible for the day-to-day running of Shipleys’ two tax departments in London and Godalming. As a former HMRC Officer he is well aware of the procedure from the other side of the fence.

Mike previously worked for HM Revenue & Customs before joining a predecessor firm of Shipleys in 1979. He was made a principal in 1998.

José Manuel Vázquez has been partner of the Tax Department of Garrigues since 1999, where he has pursued his professional career after a period at Arthur Andersen. For the last fifteen years, he has advised on many of the most important private equity transactions carried out in Spain, making him a lawyer of choice in the sector.

He specializes in the analysis and planning of investment and divestment structures and corporate reorganizations (mergers, divisions and contributions). He regularly participates in company acquisitions and transfers, in business group restructurings and in acquisition structures. 

He has also garnered extensive experience in tax planning of wealth and inheritance, in advice on the reorganization of family groups and, in general, in advice on legal and tax issues to family businesses and high net worth individuals. Since qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1967, Roy Saunders has accumulated a wealth of commercial experience working independently in commercial property, international tax, advertising and other industries. He is the Chairman of IFS, a boutique international tax practice based in central London. Academically, he is known throughout the world for his many books and publications, the foremost being his red book, International Tax Systems & Planning Techniques published by Sweet & Maxwell. Roy has also taught an MA Course on International Taxation at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies at the University of London.

Roy is very proud of the fascinating client base of entrepreneurial individuals that he has built up at IFS. He feels strongly about the role that ethical tax structuring plays in the growth of an economy, and that this needs to be better understood by the public at large. Aliasghar Kanani is a tax partner with LE/AX. His favorite field of activity is Swiss and International corporate tax law, which covers varied topics, such as international tax planning for multinationals and SMEs, group and financial restructurings. He also advises high net worth individuals on Swiss and international tax planning aspects, as well as non-profit organizations.

Following his graduation in Swiss Law, he obtained a Master of Advanced Studies in business law (MBL). In order to complete this Master degree, he wrote a thesis on “Merger and its tax treatment”. He completed an LL.M. in International Taxation, during which he specialized in Swiss and International Business taxation and wrote a thesis on “IP restructurings”.

He has been an active member of the Tax Law Commission of the Association International of Youngs Lawyers (AIJA, www.aija.org), for which he has been the annual national reporter since 2009. He received the Past President Award for his 2009 national report on "Thin capitalization regulations and similar tax limitations on leveraged buy-outs".
