Join Bern Gilbey, Jeremy Cape and Mitch Thompson of Squire Patton Boggs, Robert Kiggins of Culhane Meadows and Cees-Frans Greeven of Buren for a discussion on the effect that Brexit will have on international business structuring issues, a review of President Trump’s proposals as they affect cross-border transactions, and an analysis of the anti-hybrid and interest deductibility provisions recommended by the OECD BEPS initiative as they relate to the UK and US.

Jeremy Cape is a tax and public policy partner in the London office, advising on a wide range of issues, including M&A, private equity, finance, restructuring and insolvency, and VAT. He has substantial experience in both domestic and global matters, with specific expertise regarding emerging markets and Africa, counselling both governments and taxpayers. His current initiatives include helping businesses deal with the introduction of VAT in the Gulf in 2018 and helping both UK and international businesses plan for Brexit.


Jeremy is frequently quoted and cited in media outlets, and is a regular speaker and presenter in the UK and abroad. He has been interviewed on BBC News and appears as a tax commentator on the financial TV channel CNBC. Jeremy also writes for numerous publications on a variety of subjects in the field of tax and policy. He was the winner of Tolley’s Tax Commentator of the year in 2018.

Mitch Thompson is deputy practice group leader of the Squire Patton Boggs Tax Strategy & Benefits practice where he focuses on corporate taxation and international tax matters.

Mitch has extensive experience advising clients on US, non-US and cross-border mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, restructuring, transfer pricing and financing transactions.

Prior to rejoining the firm in 2004, Mitch served for six years as global tax counsel for several automotive businesses at TRW Inc., then a multinational automotive and technology company. While at TRW, Mitch had tax law and planning responsibility for acquisitions, dispositions and joint ventures ranging in value from US$11 million to more than US$1.5 billion. In addition, Mitch oversaw transfer pricing planning and legal compliance for several operating divisions and contributed to key corporate tax initiatives including TRW’s acquisition by the Northrop Grumman Corporation and the subsequent disposition of various business divisions by Northrop.

Since returning to Squire Patton Boggs, Mitch has had lead tax responsibility advising clients on numerous mergers and acquisitions and transfer pricing projects for listed companies, private equity and cross-border funds with an emphasis on complex, cross-border transactions.

Mitch is a Six Sigma Green Belt and co-leader of Squire Patton Boggs’ Legal Project Management initiatives.
