Janet Paterson has a strong technical background in UK and International tax, she is a qualified chartered accountant and chartered tax advisor, a member of the society of trust and estate practitioners and a member of the institute of indirect taxation.

Janet is also a member (formerly chairman) of the Fleet Chapter of the VAT Practitioners Group, a member of the International Tax Planning Association and a member of the International Fiscal Association.

Janet left the position she held for nearly 5 years as the partner responsible for international tax and VAT at the Tunbridge Wells based accountancy firm of Creaseys LLP to build her own specialist firm.

Janet and her ever increasing team of professionals based at Charter Tax assist a varied client base in all manner of UK and international tax projects where they have extensive skills in tax planning for personal and corporate clients with both a domestic UK bias but also those with cross border requirements. These clients include local professionals, mobile executives, non-domiciled individuals, owner managed business, multinational corporates and international trust companies.

As well as enjoying helping all manner of clients find tax efficient solutions, Janet regularly contributes to the tax professional press and is the author of a number of notable titles, including the remittance basis chapter for Lexis Nexis on-line, Tolleys Property Tax Planning, and various technical digests for Bloomsbury regarding VAT.

Janet is an accomplished horsewoman owning a small stable in Kent where she keeps several horses which she often enters into 3 day eventing competitions throughout the UK.

Dmitry Zapol is an international tax advisor with practical knowledge of the principles of individual and corporate international taxation and cross-border business planning. He joined IFS in September 2010 after earning his LLM (Tax) degree at King’s College, London. Five years prior to this, Dmitry earned his LLB at Durham University and completed an LPC at the College of Law. Dmitry is a qualified Russian lawyer — he came to the UK from Moscow, where for five years he worked as an associate at Moscow City Bar Association "Barshchevsky & Partners". Dmitry specialised in advising foreign investors exploring opportunities in Russia on corporate tax implications together with Russian and cross-border tax planning. Dmitry holds the Advanced Diploma in International Tax and is studying to become a CTA.

Dr Paul Micallef Grimaud is a partner at GANADO Advocates, having joined the firm in 2008 after having previously held the position of Senior Legal Advisor with the Maltese telecoms regulator. Paul spearheads the firm’s Intellectual Property and Telecoms, Media and Technology (IP&TMT) practice which services businesses of a local and international dimension, including prominent industry players.

Paul’s focus is dedicated to counselling and assisting clients in the media, technology and entertainment space (including remote gaming) in the drafting and negotiation of contracts, content and end-user related matters, the registration, protection and enforcement of IP rights, and competition and passing off disputes. He is a warranted advocate and regularly appears before the inferior and superior courts of Malta, representing clients on a number of commercial disputes, particularly in the areas of IP, telecoms, competition and corporate law.

Over the past years Paul has been co-leading a project for the Government of Malta aimed at providing recommendations to enhance the current IP legal framework to create solutions aimed at the monetisation and commercialisation of IP specific assets, thus making Malta an attractive jurisdiction for IP industries.
