Dear Lucie,

Your IBSA team hope you have had an enjoyable Easter break.  We have taken our spring cleaning seriously and have now launched a new website.

Our objective is to enable the IBSA community to connect and engage more effectively. The new site is easier to navigate and has better functionality, including a more sophisticated search tool, a brand new Member Forum, easier registration for events and automatic news feeds regularly informing you of new articles and events.

Highlights of the new IBSA website are:

The Member Area

Once members log in, they will see their own profile, which they can now edit.  They can view a calendar showing all upcoming events, easily register and pay (where appropriate) for tickets and receive event reminders.  They will also be able to create and submit articles for the Knowledge Bank.

Member Forum

Members can now start discussions on particular topics, create private chat rooms, share knowledge and seek advice from fellow members.

Registering for Events

Registering for events is simpler and quicker, enabling delegates to buy tickets, receive confirmation and reminders.

Corporate Members

Our corporate members will be able to promote their businesses more effectively by highlighting their services, specialisations and countries of operation.

The website is now live but we welcome your comments and feedback, as it has been programmed and designed purely for your benefit.  Please could we ask our members to check their professional profiles and email us directly of any changes that need to be made. Please click here to view the new website.

RELATIONSHIP STATUS AND RELATED LEGAL ADVICE

Lucy Greenwood, International Family Law Group LLP

As stated in a recent online article for a national newspaper ‘Statistics show that two thirds of cohabiting couples in England believe that they have automatic rights or the same rights as married couples/couples in a Civil Partnership, simply by virtue of the fact they live together. ’ ‘The Office for National Statistics holds that there are 3.3 million cohabiting couples in the UK at present and this number is set to rise to 6 million by 2032. ’ Unlike some other parts of the world, it is simply not true that cohabitees in England (whatever the duration of their cohabitation and regardless of whether they have children) acquire or have the same rights (for themselves) as married/civil partnership couples.

PARADISE LOST

Derren Joseph, Hayden T Joseph CPA LLP

To many people, sun-kissed beaches lapped by the clear blue waters of the Caribbean form a vision of paradise. Yet for the rich and famous they are more than just a playground, as many of these small islands also provide a safe haven for their riches.
